How Can Comics Plus Help Literacy Programs?

  • Graphic novels allow students to read above their independent reading level so they can engage with more challenging text
  • Reading graphic novels builds comprehension and critical thinking skills
  • Graphic novels get reluctant readers excited about reading by providing a fun format
  • Adult literacy students also benefit from the inviting, easy-to-engage format
  • For ESL students, the artwork helps clarify and reinforce the meaning behind the text, allowing them to grasp content more quickly
  • Spanish-language graphic titles serve the same function for those learning to speak Spanish

How Does Comics Plus Work?

The User Experience
Comics Plus users can access the platform from either a website or downloadable app. The interface is easy to use and can be opened on almost any electronic device. Users browse by age range, genre, publisher, or title—or they can use the search box to look up specific titles.
Comics Plus organizes titles with "drawers" — which highlight selections by subjects, series, age ranges or even recent releases — to make finding the perfect read that much easier.

Since Comics Plus is an unlimited simultaneous 24/7 usage platform, patrons are free to read their favorite graphic content wherever and whenever they want. Best of all, since the content is downloadable, patrons don't even need to be online to enjoy reading their favorite titles and series. Titles can be downloaded onto a device (when using the Comics Plus app) or stored in the Cloud (app or web) and kept in "shelves" for easy access during the entire checkout period.

The Library Subscriber Experience: Managing Comics Plus
Each library gets a dedicated platform for its users, with a variety of authentication options available. While Comics Plus is easy to find online and in app stores, your patrons need an active library card to access any content.

Libraries also have the power to customize their own Comics Plus collection. Using the Products section of the User Admin Portal, Comics Plus account administrators can search and filter their entire collection to weed individual titles as they see fit. The result is a bespoke service that each individual library offers to its own patrons.
